In contrast to the traditional rotation structure of most firms, our approach is to have students work on all types of matters during their year of articling. This allows each student the opportunity to see many matters through from the commencement of the matter until conclusion. It is our view that learning in this environment allows the student to see the interplay of the various practice disciplines as they relate to the provision of legal services to the client.
Because of the entrepreneurial philosophy of the firm, students are given a significant amount of responsibility very quickly. Articling at our firm means that each student will have the opportunity to have carriage of his or her own files, conduct examinations for discovery, argue motions, attend mediations, conduct Small Claims Court trials and assist clients in closing their corporate transactions.
The articling program at Woolgar VanWiechen Ketcheson Ducoffe LLP is designed to reflect the core nature of the services we provide to our clients.
- assessing the legal issues against the client's overall business strategy
- providing advice on the purchase and sale of businesses, shareholder agreements, secured transactions, private financing, and general corporate matters
- commercial litigation, with an emphasis on shareholder disputes, commercial tenancy and property issues, and chattel leasing
- employment litigation
- estates litigation
- employment human resources consulting
An articling student will be primarily exposed to practice in these areas and advising our business clients on these issues.
We view our physical space as being unique amongst downtown business law firms and this uniqueness enhances our work environment. We have also created a place where everyone - from staff to partners - are friends who respect each other's outside office commitments. Not only is Woolgar VanWiechen Ketcheson Ducoffe LLP a good place to work, but we also provide a competitive compensation package.
